FACER2VM: Face matching for Automatic identity Retrieval, Recognition, Verification and Management.
A fully-funded PhD Studentship is available for a UK or EU student to join the flagship FACER2VM project funded by EPSRC. The goal of FACER2VM research is to develop technologies for unconstrained face recognition. FACER2VM is a collaborative multidisciplinary project between the Universities of Surrey, Imperial College London and the University of Sterling.
The successful candidate will develop automatic techniques for recognizing individuals in video based on face and soft biometrics.
Although the PhD researcher will be based at the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing, University of Surrey, research will be conducted within the FACER2VM wide project team providing opportunities for collaboration and extended secondment to other FACER2VM partners. Entry Requirements
Candidates should hold a 1st or 2:1 Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Masters’ degree with distinction in an appropriate discipline (e.g., engineering, computer science, signal processing, applied mathematics, physics). They should be able to demonstrate excellent mathematical, analytic, and programming skills.Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more areas of: signal processing, image and video processing, computer vision, machine learning, face modeling and analysis.
Funding
Funding is available for UK or EU nationals only and covers full tuition fees (home rate) and a stipend at the rate specified by the Research Council (rate for 2016-2017 is £14,057 p.a. tax-free). The award will be for a period of 3 years starting in October 2016. There may be a possibility of converting the award to an Industrial case studentship, which would attract an enhanced stipend (£18,000 p.a. tax-free).
