This project will explore the use of message-passing algorithms for finding good sparse approximations of high-dimensional signals. In the simplest setting, the goal is to represent a vector by efficiently finding the best sparse linear combination of vectors from a given dictionary. Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) at least a good 2.1 degree (and preferably a Masters degree) in an Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics with a good academic record. A strong mathematical background is essential, especially in probability/statistics and inference.
EPSRC funded studentships are available for Home and EU students. Home students and certain EU students will receive a full studentship including fees and Maintenance.
